I started the day off feeling worried, scared and nervous. Today was the day we'd play our 'make or break' match against SA. I knew they were good and though we very well deserved it more, whether or not we could convert today was another thing.
Reached school and during assembly, the squash players went up on stage to collect their trophy-s, to present a powerpoint of their journey as a team and for their boys' captain to make a speech on behalf of the teams. It was then that it hit me just how badly i wanted to be standing there on stage, being so damn proud of how far we've come and proving to the school and everyone else that indeed AC Girls' Hocks don't just look good(whahahaha), but play good too. I wanted to badly to be able to hold my head up high and shove it in peoples' faces, in everyone who's ever doubted us and said it was a sure lose against SA that hey, we don't suck. So, so, so badly. I msged Chare and hey hey, the fire was going strong at her end too.
Chinese class passed by in a blur, then i forgot (i really did, honest!) to go for Lit but hey, it's not like i would have paid attention anw. That was my academic school day. Sat in the void deck with Clare and Di and Chare and i guess the tension was very much evident. Thinking of play and trying to get rid of nerves.. it was scary shit. Went to the young tao fu stall to by lunch and met more hockers. Amanda was already tearing in TERROR. Haha. But i guess it just reflected what everyone was feeling. Not quite terror, but a strong sense of wonder, maybe fear, anticipation. It was such and important match.
After eating, we made our room to the old LT1, then switched to the freezingly cold dance studio. Had a good nap, recharged and ready-er. Ate with Clare Chare Luds Alyssa and Fang and Ms Tan for a while again before going down for team talks, visualisation and getting ready. The bus ride was quiet as usual, then we got to Delta. Wow, really brought back memories from Craz Hockey days. More so seeing Nut Graciie Mel Ahma Glad and Yuan and Trace there too. Nuts (: We had our usual crazy warm up (we're the ONYL team that needs ridiculous amounts of running for warming up) and team talks. Dawn switched some positions like switched me from right to left and Clare from left to right. We had our panic time, but it was okay after a while. Decided as a team to enjoy the match thoroughly and to just play with everything we had.
You know what?
WE DID (((:
Girls: We fought hard, we fought well. We fought from whistle all the way to the last whistle and I'm so, so, so proud of every single one of yous! Never would i have thought that we would have gotten this far as ONE TEAM, never would i have thought that i would be able to proudly lift my head high, even not getting into the semis and saying with all conviction of an entire team that yes, indeed we played our best and I'm so damn proud to be part of AC Girls' Hockey 'o6. Cos truly, i am. We've formed unbreakable bonds, we've come together from such diverse backgrounds and personalities and become ONE TEAM. And that's enough for me (:
Maybe God's plan was never for us to get into the semis (well, i gather that from the 3 postponed games). I choose to believe that his plan for us was to come together, play together, learn together, formulate unforgettable memories with one another. Through the many physicals, the sprints, the 300s, the running running running push ups crunches supermans LAUCHES crunches, BANDAR'06 (WHICH WE SURVIVED), 2.4s etc etc etc! Through pitch trnings, school trnings, classroom sessions, talking sessions, bonding sessions. Through it all we've stuck by each other, never ceasing to encourage, motivate and scream out at one another though everyone felt like dying too. Maybe it was for us to come together as a team. To play OUR BEST MATCH EVER, to prove to everyone that we can play hockey and to glorify God, ACJC, our teachers, seniors and Dawn and mostly OURSELVES (: I'm so so so so proud to be part of AC GIRLS' HOCKEY '05/06!!!
I'm already suffering from AC Hockey withdrawal symptoms.. But THANK YOU EVERYONE for giving me such perfectly wonderfully memories and letting me be part of such an amazing team.
AC HOCKS, ROCK MY SOCKS!
